Here’s a little riddle for your metabolism: What meal, when eaten at 8am, keeps your glucose stable… …but when eaten at 8pm, leaves you inflamed, insulin-resistant, and tossing in bed at midnight? Answer: The exact same meal. This week’s focus? Not what you eat. Not how much you eat. But when you eat. Time-Connected Eating Because when it comes to ageing, timing is everything. I call this Biosynchrology Let's dive in...
Where insight becomes impact
What I’ve been looking at this week…
Study Spotlight #1 — Molecular Upgrades from Early Eating A randomised controlled trial put Time-Connected Eating (TCE) to the test—comparing early vs late eating windows, with calorie intake held constant. Participants were divided into three groups:
Early TCE: 7am–1pm
Late TCE: 12pm–6pm
Control: unrestricted eating window
After 8 weeks, all groups lost weight—but only early TCE delivered added metabolic benefits:
↓ Systolic blood pressure
↓ Fasting insulin & HOMA-IR (a marker of insulin resistance)
↓ 24-hour mean glucose
↓ Leptin (a hormone linked to appetite and fat storage)
Improved markers of thyroid axis regulation
PMID 36034216
What this means: When you eat—even with the same calories—affects your blood pressure, hormones, glucose energy and appetite.
Study Spotlight #2 — Strength, Fat Loss, and Timing In an 8-week study of individuals doing resistance training, those who ate from 8am–2pm (early TCE) lost 2.6kg fat on average, compared to 1.4kg and 0.5kg in later eating groups. Crucially:
No calories were cut
No strength or muscle mass was lost
The only change was when food was eaten
PMID: 40290077
What this means: Your circadian rhythm is a metabolic switchboard. Align your eating to daylight, and your body shifts into better metabolic gear—even if your meals stay the same.
Why TCE works:
Your pancreas is more insulin-sensitive in the morning
Cortisol peaks early, aiding glucose metabolism
Melatonin rises at night, suppressing insulin
Late meals = disrupted CLOCK and BMAL1 gene expression, accelerating cellular ageing
In short: Your organs tell time. The liver, gut, pancreas, and even fat tissue all run on their own biological clocks. And they’re not just ticking in isolation—they’re waiting for cues from light and food to synchronise. Food is a time signal. Eat out of sync, and your body pays the price.
Track it to hack it.
What I’ve been monitoring this week…
Use tech to test out how time-connected eating affects you: 1. CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor- Freestyle Libre/Lingo) Track how your body handles glucose
Compare glucose spikes for the same meal at breakfast vs dinner
Expect 30–50% higher spikes in the evening->move dinner earlier
2.Oura / Whoop
Watch how a 9pm dinner delays heart rate dip and reduces deep sleep
Look for HRV and readiness score changes
3. Light Metres ( My Circadian)
Pair your first bite with bright light exposure (ideally 1,000+ lux) Get bright light within 60 minutes of waking to anchor your eating rhythm—this resets your suprachiasmatic nucleus (master clock) and improves insulin sensitivity.
Pro tip: Protein + Light in the morning = metabolic biosynchrony
From knowing to doing.
What this means for YOU…
Here’s how to implement Early Time-Connected Eating (eTCE) with ease: ✅ Start your first meal within 1–2 hours of waking Ideally before 10am. This aligns with natural cortisol peaks and insulin readiness (although let me know if you'd like a cortisol test to align eating with your own personal cortisol peak.)
Avoid fasting past 11am if your goal is insulin sensitivity or hormone stability
✅ Close your kitchen 3 hours before bed Eat dinner by dusk
Avoid snacking after sunset
✅ Stack food earlier in the day Bigger brunch, lighter dinner = reduced glucose variability
Even identical meals are handled better earlier in the day with 40% lower glucose spikes in the morning than at night.
✅ Test your metabolism Fasting glucose, insulin, lipids, homocysteine, HOMA-IR - cardiometabolic profile
💼 Case in Point One of my clients- an exec in fintech was wearing a CGM and couldn't understand why his "healthy" dinner was spiking him at 9pm. We ran a 1-week experiment: Same meals, same macros. Only change? Dinner moved from 8:30pm to 5:15pm. Results:
Deep sleep increased by 28 minutes
Fasting glucose dropped by 0.8 mmol/L
No more 3am wake-ups
He didn’t change what he ate. He changed when he ate. And his biology changed with it.

Where you’ll find me…
Last week:
We went fast and personal in The Million Hour Club—our bi-monthly 3 in 30 live session, where I answer 3 precision health questions in 30 minutes. From gut imbalances to glucose crashes, it turned into a rapid fire masterclass in how tracking leads to transformation. These are some of my favourite moments - your questions, my expertise and real time solutions. I also gave an evening talk at Home House—5 steps to sleep- to a room of high performers who, like many of you, know that sleep isn’t just rest—it’s regeneration. And after 5 days away, I wrapped my daughter in a giant hug at the airport as she returned from her choir tour in Turkey. I'm a secret arrivals hall people watcher btw! There's nothing more heartwarming to see than those reunion hugs. It's an oxytocin overdose I highly recommend! Oh—and I had the joy of meeting Karen Millen and her daughter Jodie Stanford at The Pavilion Club. Talking legacy, resilience and reinvention- three pillars that run deep through both fashion and health.
This week:
I’ll be on TV and radio!! Very, very excited. Stay tuned to my socials to catch the where and the what. Behind the scenes I'm also in some exciting conversations to bring next-gen genetic testing to my clients—looking beyond ancestry to longevity markers with meaning. I only use what I trust—and yes, I test everything on myself first.
Next week:
I’m heading somewhere very unique. Clue? Ancient wisdom meets transformative technology. I’ll reveal more soon… 👀 In the meantime, if you’ve been curious about testing your biological age, mapping your metabolism or joining a circle of high-achievers living with clarity, energy and edge— this is your sign. Apply to join the Million Hour Club or join the 10 Years Younger in 10 Weeks programme. We don’t guess. We test. And we transform.
A thought to pause on…
“Your cells don’t just care what you feed them. They care when you feed them."
You already have a biological rhythm. Time-Connected Eating helps you live in tune with it. For longevity-focused, data-savvy individuals, it’s not just about fasting—it’s about metabolic finesse. eTCE delivers real shifts in glucose, blood pressure, sleep, and oxidative stress
So here’s your micro-mission this week: 🕰️ Eat your last meal by 6pm. Track your deep sleep. Test your biomarkers. And track how it feels to be back in sync.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! Dr Alka
